Team
Our Tübingen High Altitude Ophthalmology Study Group consists of 4 researchers led by our principle investigator Dr. Gekeler. The idea of the project originated from Gabriel Willmann who has performed high altitude research in recent years in the Himalayas and on Mt. Mckinley. Dr. Fischer and Andreas Schatz have great expertise in structural and functional analyses of the eye and complement our research team. All are currently working in the university Eye Hospital Tübingen.

Dr. Dominik Fischer Resident in Ophthalmology and Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Centre for Ophthalmology in Tübingen. His work focuses on translational research in neurodegenerative disorders of the eye. He recently established non invasive retinal imaging for use in small animals and participates in the development of stem cell and gene therapy based therapeutic strategies. In the clinical setting, he leads a number of clinical trials involving hereditary and acquired retinal pathologies. |
